Apps

Phone apps and web apps, built for your business and yours once they’re done.

I build them the same way as the websites: by hand, for one business, starting from exactly what yours needs to do. I enjoy building apps, and they’re a permanent part of what BrandOr does.

Prices

Three kinds of app, and where each one starts.

These are starting prices. The scoping session works out exactly what yours will cost, and you have the price before you commit to the build.

Web app

From

£2,500

Works in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer. Nothing to download, and no app store to go through.

Phone app

From

£4,500

iPhone and Android from one build, published in the App Store and Google Play under your own accounts.

Bigger apps

From

£8,000

Apps that take payments, have logins for your staff and customers, or connect to the systems your business already uses.

Quoted after the scoping session.

Scoping session · £250

Every app starts here. We agree exactly what your app will do, and it’s written down before anything is built. Taken off the build price if you go ahead within 90 days.

Start with a scoping session

How it works

From the first conversation to the app going live, and after.

  1. Scoping

We go through what you need the app to do and turn it into a fixed list of what it does. That list is agreed in writing before anything is built, and the price for the build comes with it.

  2. Build

I build it by hand, to that list. You can try it on your own phone as it comes together, so you’re using the real thing before it goes live.

  3. Launch

A phone app goes into the App Store and Google Play under your own accounts, so it’s yours, like the websites. Apple and Google check it first, and if they ask for changes, I make them. A web app goes live at its own web address.

  4. App Care

Once it’s live, App Care keeps it hosted and working as Apple and Google update their systems, with small fixes when something isn’t quite right. It’s monthly. Phone apps need it; for a web app it’s optional.

App Care

From £95 a month. Hosting, updates and small fixes.

Apple and Google update their systems regularly, and a phone app has to keep up with them. App Care is how it does. Required for phone apps, optional for web apps. Cancel with 30 days’ notice.

Included every month

  • Hosting for the app’s data and the services it runs on
  • Keeping it working when Apple and Google update their systems
  • Small fixes, as they come up

New features and new screens are quoted before they start.

Not included: the store fees

Apple’s developer membership is £79 a year, and Google Play charges a one-off registration fee. You pay them to Apple and Google yourself, because the accounts that hold your app are in your name.

Some apps also rely on paid services run by other companies, such as text messages or card payments. Your quote names them, and they’re paid at cost or by you directly.

Questions people ask first

Do I own it?

Yes. Once it’s paid for in full, the app, its code and its design are yours. A phone app sits in your own App Store and Google Play accounts, in your name, so it’s yours in the same way the websites are.

Will it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. A phone app is built once and published to both, in the App Store and on Google Play. A web app works in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, so there’s nothing to choose between.

How long does it take?

It depends on what the app does, so there’s no set answer. The scoping session works it out, and you’ll have the timescale and the price in writing before you commit to the build.

I’ve only got an idea. Is that enough?

Yes. That’s what the scoping session is for. Bring the idea and the job you want the app to do, and we’ll work out together what it needs, what it doesn’t, and what it will cost. If you go ahead within 90 days, the £250 comes off the build price.

What if Apple or Google turn it down?

Apple and Google check every app before it goes into their stores, and approval is their decision, not mine. If they ask for changes, I make them, as long as they fall within what we agreed at the scoping session. Anything beyond that is quoted before it starts.

Got an idea for an app? Let’s talk it through.

Tell me what you’d like it to do and who will use it. You’ll get a straight answer about what it would take, and the scoping session is where we pin it down.
